Silk, a renewable resource and compostable fabric

From start to finish every time we had to chose a fabric and supplier we always made sure they were aligned with our DNA.

We prioritize a textile that is in 100% the same fiber in order to be 100% recyclable when the time will come to do so.

Also we choose to work with suppliers that have a long term plan to implement sustainable practices within their factories.

Moreover we believe a certification such as FSC, GOTS or others, can truly ensure us and our consumer that the fabric was made respecting the planet and human rights.

Why we chose silk for the Twinsparency top?

Silk is considered a more sustainable fiber as it is a renewable resource, uses less water and energy than many other fibers and it is completely compostable.

Silk is one of the strongest natural fibers of all. It has natural temperature-regulating characteristics which means that the fabric feels warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Silk is the most luxurious fabric, it has a stunning drape and it will elevate any look in a second. Just like our Twinsparency Top, see it here.

Why we chose organic silk ?

Problems can arise when using conventional silk as a lot of chemicals are used such as pesticides and fertilizers. Toxic chemicals can be used during reeling and materials processing to both clean the silk and remove sericin and sometimes the untreated wastewater is dumped directly into groundwater.

Organic silk is not produced in the same volumes as commercial silk. The process is longer and there are no chemicals used in any step of the production.

What does GOTS certification stand for ?

Our silk is made in Italy and is certified GOTS

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria.

Their requirements ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

Is our silk vegan friendly ?

Unfortunately our silk is not vegan friendly as we haven’t found a supplier of peace silk or wild silk that provided a fabric in the quality we want to offer our customers.
