Sustainable Activewear Brands For Workout Clothes That You Will Actually Enjoy Putting On

This article was written by Jen Cassamajor.

One of your 2023 resolutions was to workout and you already feel like this is not going to happen ? We feel you. Whether it is outside, at the gym or at home, it can be quite hard to find (and keep) the motivation. At Twin Flame we’ve come up with a trick : putting on a cute outfit. Trust us, paired with a good playlist it actually makes quite a difference. Of course, as the environment always remains a number one concern when we’re shopping, we’ve selected sustainable activewear brands to help you get that body moving without harming the planet.

Girlfriend Collective : the most inclusive

What we love about Girlfriend Collective is how inclusive the label is when it comes to sizing. I mean, it is always nice to wear a piece that truly fits but this is even more true for activewear. Nobody wants to have to worry about any wardrobe malfunction while in downward facing dog position ! The brand’s wide size range, from XXS to 6XL, is thought to suit most body types. With inclusivity, sustainability is another aspect that Girlfriend Collective has chosen to prioritize. The fabrics are made from recycled materials such as water bottles, fishing nets or fabric scraps and certified Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex. Even the dyes used are eco-friendly !

Our favorite pieces : the Bianca One Shoulder Bra and the Sport Skort

Outdoor Voices : the most casual

If you’re looking for pieces you can wear from the gym to the street, Outdoor Voices is your go-to. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, leggings… They’ve got all the loungewear essentials, all made of sustainable or recycled textiles. Outdoor Voices also unsures fair working conditions and ethical labor practices in their choices for partners. With easy and timeless pieces, the brand makes sure to stay true to their two main goals : longevity and circularity.

Our favorite pieces : the Nimbus ¼ Zip Sweatshirt and the RecFleece Sweatpant

Organic Basics : the most timeless

As its name suggests, Organic Basics wants to offer you all the basics you might need but in a sustainable way. As we’ve often stated, a part of an eco-friendly consumption is to only buy pieces you will actually wear and that are versatile. That’s exactly the mission of that Danish label whose factories are all based in Europe. And that doesn’t only transpire in the minimalist designs but also in the material - recycled nylon - and the treatments used. While the dyes are based on waste from rosemary, palmetto fruit, saw palmetto and beetroot production, the garments are treated with recycled silver salt called Polygiene for its propriety to stop the growth of odor-causing bacteria. We also appreciate the brand’s transparency. On their website you can for exemple learn about their “fuck-ups”. A nice reminder that brands are not perfect but can always learn from their mistakes.

Our favorite pieces : the Active Bike Shorts and the Active Workout Bra

Circle Sportswear : the most local

The French activewear brand Circle was created in 2020 as a way to show that technicality and sustainability could come together without having to cross oceans. As its slogan - “Protect your Playground” - perfectly reminds it, Circle wants to offer pieces without having a negative impact on our shared playground, the planet. One way to achieve that is circularity. The pieces, produced in a family workshop in Portugal, are made from waste and are also recyclable. The company has pushed its eco-friendly approach to such an extent that orders in Paris are actually delivered by bike by their team. An inspiring French label to support !

Our favorite pieces : the Get in Shape Leggings and the Smooth Operator Sport Crop Top
