As you know at Twin Flame we never miss an opportunity to put the spotlight on inspiring women so we obviously had to introduce one of them during Women’s History Month ! This month’s woman crush inspires us everyday to do our best to preserve the environment. And she’s French ! Meet Camille Étienne. Through her Instagram account, @graine_de_possible, this young climate activist speaks up on environmental issues that the traditional media don’t always cover and reminds us that climate change is something we can all take actions against.

Who is Camille Étienne ?

@graine_de_possible

Who is that 24 year-old woman who has become one of the strongest French voices when it comes to climate change ? Born in Savoie in a family of farmers and mountain dwellers, she grew up surrounded by nature before moving to Paris for her studies at both Sciences Po and La Sorbonne. She couldn’t help but feel quite surprised when noticing that some of her classmates - who would certainly become leading figures in politics and geopolitics - knew so little about nature and where the food in their plate came from ! Deciding to focus on environmental issues and after studying agriculture and agroforestry in Finland, a TED talk in 2019 about ways to rethink agriculture officially put her on the map of climate change activism.

Art as a way to speak up

 What makes us hear Camille Étienne’s voice more than some others ? The young ecologist has found a way to use images and the internet as a great tool to speak to us without ever sounding too abstract or moralist. Since 2018, she is the spokesperson of the On est Prêt movement, a group of artists and videasts who offer digital content with the environment at its center. While her personal Instagram account, @graine_de_possible, is her most used platform, she is also the co-founder of Avant l’Orage with the director Solal Moisan. With a series of short films, the duo aims to make activism look more attractive and convey messages through art. “Réveillons-nous” - released during the lockdown in 2020 - is definitely a must-see but we also highly recommend  their latest creation, “Glacier”, a beautiful work reminding us of an urgent matter.

What’s next ?

@brutofficiel

Camille Étienne has definitely pushed many walls, including political ones. You can now see her speak at the European Parliament or take part in debates with French political figures quite regularly. No wonder why the French media Brut considers her as one of the 31 personalities who have shaken up 2022. When asked what her goals are, the activist not only mentions to continue speaking up about climate-related issues but also to concretely have an impact on the country’s legislation towards ecological transition. She has also recently announced the release of a new documentary - her first one working as a co-director - “Pourquoi On Se Bat” on the 5th of April on the French platform Tv5Monde+. She’s this month’s crush but we will definitely keep an eye on Camille Étienne the whole year !
